Released 28 October 2019
Coffin Groom was inspired by the signature imagery found in the Tim Burton film, the Corpse Bride. The song title Coffin Groom is a reversal of the film title.
It’s a dark middle-ages tale, of two lovers connected by a 5th dimensional silver cord. It’s a Romeo and Juliett with a gothic twist. Beware, creeps are creepin’ in this dark and unusual tack, that weaves and winds down a cobblestone path before making the ultimate sacrifice.
They cross oceans of time to meet again, waiting for ‘the one’. Coming in it at just over 7 1/2 minutes, this song is a journey that will transport you to the underworld of a soul’s cycle and back again.
I remember when I was about to hit the release button and was worried about the song length. Most of my tracks are over 4 minutes, but this is my longest.
Around the time of recording this track, the Queen film Bohemian Rhapsody came out. And I remember the story behind the title track, and how the band really took as risk releasing it as a single, in terms of structure, length and lyrics. So, I thought, fuck it.
Some trivia here too. There are only two guitars on this track, one electric and one acoustic, (and no bass guitar). This whole song is only six layers of audio, which is unusual for me. I kind of like the simplicity in the production on this one.
Also the idea of the main guitar riff throughout this track, was lifted from my 2014 track Kurnell.
It’s bold, brave & original.
